Half of the Ukrainian mustard is collected in three regions
Ukraine ranks fourth in the world for production output of mustard and second for its export. Every year Ukrainian farmers grow approximately 40 thous. tons of mustard seeds which are exported to the fullest extent. The main region for mustard growing is steppe zone of Ukraine accounting for about 70% of the gross collection of crop. In terms of regions, the largest producers are Kherson region - 22%, Donetsk region - 14%, Zaporizhzhia region - 12% accounting for half of the production volume.
Every year 90-95% of mustard is grown by agricultural enterprises, the rest is grown by households. In addition, yielding capacity of enterprises (8.1 hwt/ha in 2016) is on the average by one-third higher than indices of the households (6.0 hwt/ha). The difference of yield is stipulated by better seeding material as well as agronomic and technological treatment for sown crops by agricultural enterprises.
