August price review and forecast for September

In August this year the prices of vegetables decreased significantly in comparison with July, for example, the potato lost 16% of cost, the carrots - 34%, the cabbage prices decreased by 50%. However, the apples prices increased by 8.9%, because the market received the offer of expensive varieties, which supported the price. In September, the prices of vegetables will continue to decline.

As predicted, in August the cost of all types of meat did not undergo significant changes and increased only by 1.6% compared with July. The exception were chicken prices, which increased by 8.5% during last month. Milk prices increased by 1.8%, because the production has decreased after the summer period. The grocery prices almost did not change.

“In September, it is expected that the prices of vegetables will continue to decline, but the pace will be more restrained than in August. Since the beginning of autumn the low level of offer on the market and the increase in demand for meat don’t give prerequisites for the reduction in prices, therefore in September, it is expected that meat prices will increase in the range of 4-7%. Milk cost will also increase by 3-5%. In September, the grocery prices, namely for sugar and buckwheat, will also start to decrease, as a result of the season of sugar production and the buckwheat harvest. The oil and bread prices will vary within 1-2%”, commented Evheniy Dvornik, Analyst of Agricultural Markets of the Association “Ukrainian Agribusiness Club”.
