Market players defined development trends for Ukrainian horticulture

 On February 21, 2012 the IV International Conference "Commercial Horticulture in Ukraine 2013" was held, organized by the Association "Ukrainian Agribusiness Club" and «AgriEvent» agency, supported by the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine.

The conference was attended by over 200 participants, including representatives of agricultural companies and agroholdings, resource companies, banking sector, relevant government agencies, educational and research institutions.
The International Conference "Commercial Horticulture in Ukraine" has become the unique platform for information exchange between key market players and leading international experts about the key factors of efficient horticulture, problems, risks and prospects of the industry. In particular, participants discussed such important topics as key factors of development, marketing, overproduction, logistics, processing and others.
 
The conference started with a review of a condition and prospects of the market, made by the president of UCAB Alex Lissitsa. The first session was continued by the head of "Markets and supply chains" structural department of the Research Institute of Agricultural Economics (University of Wageningen, The Netherlands) Nico de Groot, who reported on the development of horticultural markets in Europe and worldwide.
The key aspects of horticultural projects financing in Ukraine were revealed by the Counselor to the Board for Agriculture of Credit Agricole Bank, Jean-Jacques Herve. The General Legal Counsel of USAID Project "AgroInvest" Pavlo Kulynych dwelled upon legislative innovations. The first session was closed by the report on land relations in 2013 of the Real Estate and Land Law Advisor of LF "VasilKisil & Partners" Nataliya Dotsenko-Bilous.
 
During the second session "Vegetable production in Ukraine”: overproduction and sales", from the presentation of the Head of Procurement Department and Department of Foreign Economic Affairs of Frozen Group Svitlana Ryabchenko, participants learned about promising sale markets. In turn, PhD. in Agricultural Sciences, professor of the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine Zenoviy Sych shared his knowledge on how one can earn money on niche vegetable crops. Fresh Fruit and Vegetables Procurement Manager of "METRO Cash & Carry Ukraine" Valentyna Gylko continued the topic of “purchases and sales” and told about the features of work with retail. The final speaker of the second session – director of “AgriSurvey” agency Taras Gagalyuk covered the peculiarities of foreign trade in vegetables..
During the third session of the conference, participants talked about the fruit production technologies. In particular, the director of "Brusvyana" LLC Liliana Dmytrieva and director of the cognominal nursery Volodymyr Dmytriev told about technologies of berry orchard establishment that allow to make business profitable. Detailed information about modern cooling technologies for horticultural products was provided by the Head of Industrial Refrigeration Department of "Astra" Company Sergiy Tonkonog. In turn, the Deputy Director of "Bukovynskyi Sad" LLC ("Svarog West Group" Corporation) Yaroslav Fedoryshyn reported on key factors of fruit business dynamic development. The prospects of fresh berries season expansion were covered by the Berry Crops Advisor of “Fruit Project" Jeremy Darby. 
The final stage of the conference "Commercial Horticulture in Ukraine 2013" was marked by workshops on modern technologies of fruit, berry and vegetables production, held by the Expert on Horticultural Market Sergiy Gavryshev and the Regional Manager of "Rijk Zwaan Ukraine" Andriy Galagurya.
In addition to informative presentations, all participants had the opportunity to get answers to any questions during the discussion at the end of each session of the conference.
