Ukraine: as of April 21, nearly 56% of winter crops sowings faced good condition

According to data from regions, as of April 21, 2011, winter grain sowings in Ukraine faced good condition throughout nearly 4.5 mln ha, which totaled 55.9% from the general winter grain sowing areas. 3.054 mln ha of winter grain sowings, or 37.9%, faced satisfactory condition, marked the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine. Nearly 498.5 thsd ha (6.2%) of winter crops sowings showed weak and thinned condition.

Russia sold 11.3 thsd tonnes of intervention grains on April 20

On April 20, 2011, the National Commodity Exchange provided regular exchange trades of grains from the state intervention reserve. The Government sold 11.29 thsd tonnes of grains at the general sum of 67.94 mln RUR (2.42 mln USD).

In the first quarter of 2011, Russia increased agricultural production by 0.7%

In March 2011, in the Russian Federation the volume of agricultural commodities production of all agricultural producers of the Russian Federation (agricultural organizations, farming enterprises, population) totaled 149 bln RUB in the current prices (5.295 bln USD), in the first quarter of 2011 – 342.3 bln RUB (12.168 bln USD), an increase of 0.7% compared to the same period of 2010, announced the Federal State Statistics Service of the Russian Federation (Rosstat).

Ukraine: as of April 1, grain stocks down 2%

As of April 1, 2011, in Ukraine agricultural enterprises (except of small ones) and grain storage and processing enterprises stocked 10.1 mln tonnes of grains (including 4.4 mln tonnes of wheat, 1.3 mln tonnes of barley, 3.6 mln tonnes of maize, 0.2 mln tonnes of rye), a decrease of 2% compared to April 1, 2010, informed the State Statistics Committee of Ukraine on April 15.

The position of the draft law #8321 “On making of amendments to the Tax Codex of Ukraine and adoption of tariffs of the export duties for several varieties of grains”, which includes plans for imposition of the export duties for wheat and meslin, barley and maize, calls criticism from the Main scientific-and-expert department of the Verkhovna Rada, according to the findings of the department dd. April 19, 2011.
