Prices for all groups of products increased

At the beginning of 2017 the upward price trend for food stuff is observed. Prices for all groups of products increased. Seasonal factor promoted the growth of prices for fruits and vegetables. Although, significantly lower level of prices for this group of products comparing with January 2016 should be noted.

Price for beef increased by 5% within a month in view of low supply which in turn was caused by the continuous period of holidays. Price for pork remained almost unchanged, while the price for chicken increased by 1%. Volatility of prices for pork in January led to sideways price trend. Price for milk increased by 4% due to gradual rise of the production costs of processing plants and high prices for raw milk. Growth of prices for the remaining products is associated with reduction of demand at the market, e.g. buckwheat, as well as rise of the production costs owing to increasing the minimum wage.

‘In February the upward price trend for fruits and vegetables under the influence of seasonal factor is anticipated. At present, there is a rise of purchase prices for live cattle due to the low supply of highly nourished bulls and cows, availability of export contracts as well as changes in the tax system having the greatest impact on livestock producers. Therefore, in February increase of prices for meat in the range of 5-7% is expected. The minor fluctuations of prices in the range of 2-3% can take place’, commented Eugeniy Dvornik, Adviser on Agricultural Market of UCAB.
