During May holidays Ukrainian customers will spend around UAH 1.6B ($ 63.5M) on meat
20% decrease of demand on meat for Easter and May holiday’s consumption compering to 2015.
Meat consumption survey accomplished by the UCAB’s service presents some willingness to pay indicators within consumers in Ukraine. Thus, according to obtained results Ukrainians plan to spend around 52 UAH per capita in average. Nearly 47% of respondents will purchase less meat on Easter holidays, along with almost 40% of customers which will spend the same amount of money as in the previous year. In overall due to experts’ opinions, Ukrainians will consume nearly 31k tons of meat which is 2/3 of export volumes within 1Q16.
The WHO daily norm of meat consumption is 0.2kg per capita, however average meat portion during May holidays will be equal to 0.72kg of intake. (4x more than the WHO’s norm).
Survey has found that this year 9% of customers will buy beef meat (16% in 2015), 53% of respondents plan to purchase pig meat, and 18% will cook poultry meat.
“Meet prices increase consistently during holidays. Pig meat prices will grow by 6-7% and poultry – by 7-8%. Beef price will remain stable due to low demand for this meat in Ukraine”, UCAB expert Alina Zharko said.
