Ukrainian cattle stock increased, Azarov notes
For the first time since 1990, Ukraine experiences an increase in cattle stock, the PM of Ukraine Azarov said at the yesterday opening ceremony of the Nibulon joint venture river grain terminal transfer in Chirske village, Pereyaslav-Khmelnitsky district, Kyiv region. According to the head of the government, the state invests much in the social development of the village.
In particular, the backing for the agricultural sector in 2012 reached a record 10 billion UAH, which is 1.5 times more than in 2011. «We have initiated new forms of support for the village — such as subsidies for one bull or one calf. This year, the cattle stock has increased by 452 thousand. It is the first growth of cattle stock registered since the independence.
Since 1990, it was only a decrease: from 25 million to 4.9 million,» Azarov said. The PM believes that a substantial increase in the number of cattle can be achieved in 5–7 years. In his opinion, the annual population growth can be achieved at the rate of 200–300 thousand animal units. Moreover, Azarov mentioned that the government plans a significant increase in meat consumption by the population — up to 70–80 kg per year.
