Ukraine sows 7.9mn ha of winter crops
As of October 29, 2010 all categories of farms planted 7.9 million hectares of winter grain crops, representing 92% of the forecast, 78,000 hectares more than last year, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy of Ukraine reported Monday.
Winter wheat is sown throughout 6.4 million hectares, which accounts for 95% of the forecast at 263,000 hectares more than last year, rye - 320,000 hectares (93% or 21,000 ha more), barley - 1.065 million hectares (77% or 203,000 ha less than last year).
According to fresh data from regions, for the 2011 harvest winter wheat crops will actually be planted on the area of 8,300,000 hectares or 97% to the adjusted forecast. Specified acreages of winter crops 10-12% higher over that of the average for the last 6 years.
