Ukraine increased exports of poultry by 2.5 timesA 16,3% rise in Ukrainian poultry production in the first four months in 2013 has driven a significant increase in export volumes for April, according to the Ukrainian Agribusiness Club. In April Ukraine exported 12, 727 tons (t) of poultry meat, which is 21% more than during the previous month and 2,5 times higher than in April last year.

The export of poultry has increased both in the main importing countries, as well as a number of the new markets. In April 3, 627 t of poultry was exported to the Russian Federation, a 24% increase on previous month level. At the same time exports of poultry meat to Kazakhstan increased by half to 2,620 tons. There has also been a rapid increase in exports of Ukrainian poultry to Iran: in January only 199 t was exported to this country, but in April volumes reached 1,683 t. Small amounts also began to be exported to Thailand and Suriname. A positive fact is that the export of Ukrainian poultry was sufficiently differentiated and carried out in more than 20 countries. 

With regard to import chicken in April, there was no significant increase. In Ukraine imported 7484 tons, which is 5% more than in March. It should be noted that the April volume of imported chicken is almost by half less than the corresponding figures in 2012, because last year on April record poultry import took place, which amounted to 14,480 tons. In general imports this year is much lower than in 2012 and this is quite positive for the industry.

“The production of chicken meat will continue to grow, because poultry production has become quite attractive for investment. With increasing production, an important task is entering new markets and expanding existing” – the Ukrainian Agribusiness Club expert Alina Zharko said.
