Exports of agricultural products in January-July this year amounted to 9.1 billion U.S. dollars, while imports during the same period amounted to 4.2 billion U.S. dollars. Thus, a positive net balance of foreign trade in agricultural products amounted to about $ 5 billion, which is 60% higher than in 2011.

Monthly analysis of the net balance of foreign trade in agricultural products in 2012 shows consistently positive results with the highest index of $ 940 million in May, when the highest rates were achieved in the export of grain and sunflower oil in 2011/12 marketing year.

Overall, Ukrainian agricultural products are consumed in 141 countries, however 50% of agricultural production is exported mainly into six countries: Egypt, the Russian Federation, India, Spain, Iran and Turkey.

From the point of commodity headings, the leaders in export are sunflower oil and maize, which make up about 50% of exports of agricultural products. Also the top ten includes confectionery goods, wheat, soybeans, oilseed meal, cheese, barley and rapeseeds.

Director General of UCAB Volodymyr Lapa, commenting on the achieved results, said that they are largely based on crop performance in 2011. "Now we have to look in advance concerning the formation of favorable conditions for financing of planting campaign of 2013 - V.Lapa said." According to him, farmers hope that in 2012 the adverse financial pressure on them will be reduced, particularly through the suspension of the decision on indexation of the regulatory pecuniary evaluation of agricultural land. The development of export potential could also contribute to the recovery of VAT refund on export of grain and industrial crops.
