Ukraine. Domestic stocks of sugar will be sufficient
Domestic supplies of sugar will be enough for consumption, First Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy Serhiy Melnyk told at a briefing.
According to him, the yield of beet in the current season is more than 300 centners per hectare. This year, he said, it is planned to harvest more than 15 million tons of sweet roots, which is more than 2 million tons of sugar. "With consumption of 1.8 million tons, I think that the state will have no problems with sugar," Melnyk said. Agriculture Minister Mykola Prysiazhniuk said that in 2010 Ukraine will produce enough sugar to avoid deficit in the domestic market. In addition, he said, the export of sugar should begin this year.
