Ukraine is boosting import of live snails
Over the last three months of 2017 Ukraine imported 11.2 tons of live snails amounting to USD 33.9 thous. For comparison, less than 1 ton was imported last year and only 400 kg - in 2015. Import growth was stipulated by increasing interest of the Ukrainian people to snails breeding in view of the perspective activity line. Thus, the snails are used for increasing their number. The following countries are the suppliers of snails to Ukraine: Poland - 10.2 tons and Lithuania – 1 ton.
For reference, last year Ukraine exported a record 347 tons of snails. Almost 100% of batches were formed of snails found in rural areas of the western regions of Ukraine. Up to 2 tons of snails being sold at the domestic level are industrially produced every year.
