In April price for vegetables shot up
In April the cost of vegetables of borshch set significantly increased comparing to March. Average selling prices for potatoes increased by 10%, for cabbage – by 68%, for carrot - by 64%, for beet - by 22% and for onions - by 34%. Low level of products stock due to the end of season as well as increase in supply of vegetables from the new harvest which are more expensive constitute a reason for the ascending price trend.
Despite the significant short-term increase of prices for meat during the Easter holidays, during an average month the cost of beef and chicken increased by 2% each, the cost of pork increased by 8% under the influence of complicated epizootic situation.
Price for apples increased by 10% under the influence of seasonal factor. Prices for milk in April remained at the level of March ones, notwithstanding that the purchase prices reduced. The cost of grocery products as forecasted ranged within 3%.
‘In May the cost of fruits and vegetables will continue to show an upward price trend influenced by seasonal factor and increased supply of vegetables from the new harvest. Adverse weather conditions in April and May will keep rising prices for vegetables. The cost of meat will be relatively stable with possible minor fluctuations within 5% due to the impact of epizootic situation. The cost of milk as well as grocery products will be relatively steady with possible minor fluctuations within 1-3%’, summed up Yevheniy Dvornik, Analyst of Agricultural Markets of the Ukrainian Agribusiness Club.
