Vegetable prices continue to decline
In October, the prices of “borsch” vegetables, as predicted, continued to decline. Thus, the average level of purchasing prices for potatoes decreased by 7% compared to September, cabbage - by 16%, carrots - by 12%, onions - by 15%. The price for beet has not changed.
Reducing the purchasing prices for pork and declining demand for chicken meat led to a slight decrease in prices - by 1.9% and 0.5% respectively. At the same time, the prices for beef showed a slight increase. The prices for grocery products has mostly been declining, however, the devaluation of the hryvnia caused the increase in oil prices. The milk prices increased by 2.3% in October.
The prices for vegetables and fruits are expected to stabilize in November. Since the peak of production has already passed, the price fluctuations are possible within 10%. On the meat market, there is seasonal production growth, as households begin to slaughter livestock due to the increase in maintenance costs. At the same time, the demand from meat processing enterprises is growing before the start of products preparation for Christmas and New Year holidays. Therefore, the meat market is expected to fluctuate within 3-5%. The milk prices will continue to show insignificant growth under the influence of seasonal factors. Grocery products will show a downward price trend in the range of 2-4% under the influence of increasing production.
“The hryvnia exchange rate, which showed a slight weakening, was a stimulating factor for price growth on most consumer basket products,” commented Evgeniy Dvornik, analyst of agricultural markets of the Association “Ukrainian Agribusiness Club”.
