Progress rate of crop sowing is lower than last year

Due to the cool spring, sowing rate of early grain crops and leguminous is behind last year's indicators nationwide.
As of 31.03.2016, it was planted 49% of the predicted areas under the spring barley, 42% - under oats, and 71% - under the peas. The lowest rate of seeding spring cereals and legumes is observed in the Polissya and Forest-Steppe climatic zones. Progress rate of sowing barley in Polissya, compare to 31.03.2015, is less on 11%, in Forest-Steppe – on 20%, but in Steppe the rate is ahead of last year’s indicators on 3%. As of the end of March, the area under oat in Polessya is less on 9% compare to the last year, in Forest-Steppe - on 14%, in Steppe – on 11%. Sowing of pea in Polissya is behind on 29%, in Forest-Steppe - on 27%, in Steppe – on 6%.
UCAB experts expect that the limited moisture in the soil and a lower rate of sowing in the current year can lead to decreasing of potential crop yields by 10% and, accordingly, decreasing of gross collection on 0.5 mln t.
