Share of Belarusian dairy products up to 20% in imports
In January-August, in terms of milk, over 289,000 tons of dairy products were imported to Ukraine, which is 35% up against the previous year indexes. Considerable growth of the share of Belarusian commodities was also observed. By results of eight months, those goods made up 8% in the import structure, this year their share grew to 20%.
Those data were made public by the Ukrainian Agribusiness Club.
“Alongside with the seasonal reduction of milk production and high purchase prices, import of dairy products from Belarus will grow. As a result, a balance of foreign trade in milk will considerably fall,” Agribusiness Club expert of agricultural markets Alina Zharko believes.
By results of eight months of 2013, Belarus boosted exports to Ukraine by all positions of dairy products. While we have not imported products with low milk content in 2012, such as milk whey from Belarus, this year, 20 tons of this product were imported since January and until August. Import of Belarusian butter grew most over the designed period - 5.3 fold to 1,300 tons.
Import of milk and concentrated cream from Belarus grew to 3,400 tons over eight months, whereas fermented milk products - up to 3,700 tons. Over the same period of the previous year, import volumes of these products made up 1,600 and 1,500 tons respectively.
Dairy products export in terms of milk made up about 470,000 tons over eight months of this year. For comparison, over the entire year of 2012, 820,000 tons of dairy products were exported from Ukraine in terms of milk.
