Honey export slowed down
By results of the first quarter of 2016, Ukrainian export of honey dropped down by 11% to 7 ths t (14.8 mln USD) comparing with the same period in 2015. In value terms the reduction occurred on 23% (4.4 mln USD). Because of Russian market closing for Ukrainian goods, the main supply of honey abroad are the EU countries and the United States. This year, the largest volume of honey was exported to Germany (totally 6.5 mln USD), the United States (3.9 mln USD), and Poland (1.8 mln USD).
The same time, we have increasing in honey import. By results of the first quarter of 2016 Ukraine imported 90 tons of this product, whereas in the first quarter of last year, only 6 tons. So, in value terms we have 10-times growth: from 22 ths USD in 2015 up to 223 ths USD this year. Mostly in Ukraine honey was imported from Czech Republic, Poland and Spain. The total share of these countries makes 99.5% of the total imports in 2016. Czech Republic among the leaders of honey import to Ukraine can be partly explained by the return of the previously exported Ukrainian honey and suspension in procurement of this product at the beginning of the year.
