Nearly 37 million tons of grain harvested in Ukraine
As of October 8, according to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy of Ukraine, 36.88 million tons of grain was harvested from an area of 13,690,000 hectares, accounting for 93% of the plan. The average yield of grain and leguminous crops reaches 26.9 centners per hectare.
In particular, 152.6 thousand tons of buckwheat was threshed (88% of the forecast) with an average yield of 8.4 centners per hectare, 126.2 thousand tons of millet (99%; yield - 15,3 centners per hectare), 7.47 million tons of maize (65%, 42.7 centners per hectare), 5.75 million tons of sunflower seeds (81%, 15.9 centners per hectare), 1.012 million tons of soybeans (61%, 15.7 centners per hectare), and 127.4 thousand tons of rice (80%).
Analyst of the APK-Inform agency, Anastasia Ivasenko predicts that grain harvest in Ukraine in 2010 may reach 40 million tons.
This amount is less than the previous year's by 12.6%, and 23% less than the record crop of 2008.
