Ministry of Agrarian Policy of Ukraine increased grain harvest forecast in 2009
The Ministry of Agrarian Policy of Ukraine increased own forecast for grain harvest in the current year by 6.7% – from 45 to 48 mln tons, declared Yuri Melnik, the Minister of Agrarian Policy, on April 13.
The forecasts of gross grain crop will be corrected, depending on the influence of the weather conditions on the crop formation, added he.
The estimations of the future harvest were reviewed due to the satisfactory condition of winter crops sowings and excellent rates of the spring sowing campaign, mentioned the Minister.
This year, agricultural farms will sow grains throughout nearly 16 mln ha, including winter sowings, according to Y.Melnik.
According to the data of the State Committee of Statistics, in 2008 Ukraine harvested 53.3 mln tons of grains in clean weight, up 82% compared to 2007.
