Kyrgyzstan strives to join Customs Union
As Kairat Kelimbetov, Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, reported on February 19 in an interview, Kyrgyz government has sent an official application for membershipin the Customs Union.
“Both Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan are only at an early stage of negotiations. This year, we are taking intensive consultations within ECE Working Group. Tajikistan has not yet provided a formal application,” said Mr. Kelimbetov.
Moreover, the Kazakh official has stressed that he represents a country which has a positive attitude to this initiative of third states.
“Having said this, we proceed from the unique position of the Presidents of Kazakhstan, Russia and Belarus, made at a CIS meeting: joining the Union on special conditions is impossible,” - said Kairat Kelimbetov.
