Investments in the agro-industrial sector exceeded UAH 30 Bl in 2008
A UAH 30.1 Bl worth of investments was attracted to Ukraine’s agro-industrial sector in 2008, stated Deputy Ag Minister Olexander Shevchenko in the course of hearings at the parliamentary committee for agricultural policy and land relations. This was reported by the Verkhovna Rada’s information department.
According to him, the most successful investment projects in the livestock sector include constructing a poultry factory by Myronivka Poultry Factory to the amount of $400 Ml, reconstructing hog-breeding facilities by the limited company NPP Globinsky Hog-breeding Facilities in the Poltava region to the amount of UAH 61 Ml, and constructing three powerful hog-breeding farms in the Zgurivka district, Kyiv region.
In addition, it was emphasized that financial support to agro-industrial enterprises through the credit cheapening mechanism is presently a particularly important factor of reviving the investment activity of national interests.
It was also noted that 5 investment projects had been sent to the Economy Ministry. In particular, they concern constructing a plant for processing rapeseed into biodiesel with capacity of 75 KMT/h and a biogas installation with capacity of 2.5 MWth on the premises of Kamenets-Podilsky sugar refinery at a value of EUR 42 Ml – by the limited company "Trading and Production Enterprise UkrUniversalService” subsidiary "Biotoplyvo Podillya”, Khmelnytsky region. Also, the projects include that for developing the tomato industry with its total cost of UAH 1.8 Bl.
Participants of the hearings came to the conclusion that attracting foreign investments in Ukraine is hampered first of all by the state’s ineffective budgetary policy, constant problems with the value-added tax refunds, raising interest rates on farmer loans by banks, lack of professional present-day management, failure of the state to perform its direct functions in the agricultural branch etc.
