Imports of whole-milk products decreased in March
Ukraine reduced imports of whole-milk products in March to 993 tons which is 28% less than the imported record volumes in February. This was stated by the Association "Ukrainian Agribusiness Club" (UCAB).
The sharp increase in imports of WMP up to 1386 tons, which took place in February, caused great concern, because Ukraine had never imported so huge volumes. One may say that this happened due to seasonal reduction in milk production and increase in domestic prices for milk.
"Decrease in WHP imports in March evidences gradual stabilization of the situation. It should be noted that import relief was influenced by growth of import prices - in February average prices for WMP, imported to Ukraine were quite low – about 1685 USD/t, if we compare to 1787 USD/t in January. In March the average price for imports of whole-milk products amounted to 1729 USD/t”, – UCAB Advisor on agricultural markets Alina Zharko says.
In the first quarter of this year whole-milk products were largely imported from Russia – 1329 t and Belarus - 1183 t. It should be noted the emergence of a new importer - Bulgaria, which in January-February already imported 542 t of whole-milk products, but in March imports from this country dropped to 100 t. Imports from Russia decreased in March by 23%, and from Belarus by 12%.
Along with the increase of domestic milk production, imports of WMP will gradually decrease.
