Government serious about stabilizing prices on social foods - official
The Government has carried out a very serious work concerning public resources, which stabilized the price situation.
Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Oleksandr Sen emphasized this at a briefing during the Government's telephone conference on Tuesday.
"The price of bread is dependent on many factors, but I have to say, first, that very serious work is done in Ukraine for prices to be stable. In terms of crop cultivation, no matter how hard it was, but we have harvested 14.5 million tons of wheat, plus a significant balance of food grains. Forward contracts have been signed for about 870,000 tons of bread grain. Therefore we can speak of resources sufficient to stabilize the price of bread," Sen stressed.
According to him, enough of all kinds of food will be produced this year - from grain, sugar and beets to potatoes and other vegetables. "On the other hand, there is the situation in Ukraine, when the output is sufficient, and there is the situation in the world, when the global prices for grain are growing. In this regard, serious steps are taken to establish guarantee funds - through the Agrarian Fund, through regional resources that would ensure a stable supply of socially important food products," Sen underscored.
