Export of vegetables for borsch in December 2012 doubled
According to «AgriSurvey» Agency, in December 2012, Ukraine shipped to foreign markets about 6770 tons of potatoes, onions, cabbage and carrots, which is almost 2.2 times higher than the previous month. Thus, in value terms the abovementioned exports increased respectively from 433 thousand USD to 882 thousand USD.
Exports of onions turned out to be the largest export supply in December 2012 - 4 thousand tons, potatoes - 1,88 thousand tons Exports of cabbage for the same period amounted to 408 tons against 253 tons in November 2012.
Director of «AgriSurvey» Agency Taras Gagalyuk explains that activation of vegetable exports from Ukraine is caused by the attractive price of vegetables for borsch in foreign markets, particularly for potatoes and carrots - in Moldova, and cabbage - in Russia. "The price for vegetables in Ukraine is quite low, particularly for carrots - even lower than in Poland, which is our main competitor in exports of vegetables for borsch If a tendency of significant difference in the prices for vegetables between Ukraine and foreign markets continues, export volumes may rise further before April, "- the expert predicts.
Also Mr. Gagalyuk adds that an interesting feature of today’s export is a diversification of its traditional orientation from the traditional market of RF towards Moldova and the Balkan countries. In particular, more detail information about figures related to exports, the expert promised to tell during his speech at theIV International Conference "Commercial Horticulture in Ukraine - 2013", which will take place on February 21 in Kyiv.
