Expert: Wheat harvest in Ukraine expected at 13-14 million tons
Wheat harvest in Ukraine is expected at a low level - 13-14 million tons - because of the loss of winter crops, Director General of the Ukrainian Agribusiness Club Volodymyr Lapa has said, while commenting on the situation with winter crops, the club has told UKRINFORM.
"In the next season Ukraine will not be a prominent wheat exporter. First and foremost, due to the loss of winter crops, wheat harvest in Ukraine is expected at a lower level. Last year the harvest was more than 22 million tons, but this year it is expected at 13-14 million tons. Accordingly, the export potential could be estimated at 3-4 million tons," the expert said.
Lapa also noted that the domestic market should not expect a sharp decline in wheat prices. At the same time, the analyst suggested that the price of grain in Ukraine could start growing in the middle of this autumn.
As reported, according to the forecast of experts from the International Grains Council (IGC), wheat harvest in the world in the 2012-2013 season could fall by 2.7% compared with the previous season, to 676 million tons.
