Grain Ukraine. Egypt bought 180,000 metric tons of wheat from Russia and Ukraine on a free-on-board basis for shipment between October 1-10 on a tender of August 25.

The state-run General Authority for Supply Commodities purchased:

- 60,000 tons of Russian wheat from Olam International at $319 FOB/tone with freight costs of $11.64 per tonne

- 60,000 tons of Russian wheat from Aston at $320.94 FOB/tone with freight costs of $11.70 per tonne

- 60,000 tons of Romanian wheat from Ameropa at $323.38 FOB/tone with freight costs of $10.10 per tonne

On the tender Egyptians wanted to buy a soft or milling wheat following origin: United States, Canada, France, Australia, Germany, Britain, Russia, Kazakhstan, Romania, Ukraine and Poland.

It was GASC's third international wheat purchase since the July 1 start of the 2012/13 fiscal year. The purchase was also GASC's third in two weeks as the world's top wheat importing nation moved to secure supplies amid rising concerns about weather-shortened crops in key exporting nations. During these three tenders Egypt purchased 420,000 tons of wheat, including 300,000 tons from Russia, 60,000 tons from Ukraine and 60,000 tons from Romania.

During the 2011/12 fiscal year, GASC purchased 5.33 million tons of wheat, including 3.24 million tons of Russian wheat, 300,000 tons of Argentinean wheat, 180,000 tons of Romanian wheat, 240,000 tons of Kazakh (Russian?) wheat, 360,000 tons of Ukrainian wheat, 300,000 tons of French wheat, 60,000 tons of seller's option (Rus/Ukr/Kaz) and 60,000 tons of seller's option (Rus/Kaz), 530,000 tons U.S. wheat and 60,000 tons of Canadian wheat.

In the 2010/11 fiscal year, GASC purchased some 5.58 million tons of French, U.S., Canadian, Australian and Argentine wheat.
