Agrisector will stabilize Ukrainian economy in 2013 unless the framework conditions become worse
Agricultural sector of the Ukrainian economy is one of the few industries that can perform a stabilizing function even in the times of financial crisis. This was noted by the Association "Ukrainian Agribusiness Club" (UCAB).
Proof to this is a stable amount of gross agricultural products during the crisis of 2008-2009, as well as the increase in exports of agricultural products in 2012. Thus, in January-October 2012 exports of agricultural products exceeded 14 billion U.S. dollars, and a positive balance of trade - 8.2 billion. The share of agricultural complex accounts for a quarter of foreign exchange in Ukraine, and this figure is second to metallurgy only.
"At the beginning of December, farmers traditionally gather for a conference "Doing Agribusiness in Ukraine" to discuss prospects for the next year" - says Director General of Ukrainian Agribusiness Club, Volodymyr Lapa. According to him, this year many farmers are concerned about the challenges associated with the land reform, possible cuts of tax incentives. Besides, market conditions in the next marketing year can become quite tough in the recovery of yields of crops in major producing countries. These topics will be the focus of the conference.
In turn, the President of UCAB Alex Lissitsa emphasizes that the condition of stable work is the forecasted public policy. "The experience of 2008 shows that the main anti-crisis factor is not worsening of framework conditions in the industry, and we hope that this experience will be taken into account when state policy for 2013" - says A. Lissitsa. According to him, the great hopes in this part are set on the new composition of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and representatives of the parliamentary body are invited to the conference "Doing Agribusiness in Ukraine", which will be held on December 6, 2012 in Kyiv.
