Agriculture ministry hopes for sowing completion by October 15
Sowing of winter crops in Ukraine must be completed by October 15, with the exception of southern provinces, where the campaign will last until November 1.
This was stated by Director of the Agriculture Department at the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, Oleksandr Demydov, the ministry's press service told UKRINFORM.
"Precipitation in the past two days will be sufficient for planting in all regions of Ukraine. The current weather conditions are quite favorable and allow an extension of the winter crop sowing campaign. Farmers have already planted the planned winter crop acreage on a greater area than last year," the director of the department said.
He also noted that, by October 9, Kyiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Volyn and Chernihiv regions actually completed autumn sowing.
"Ukrainian farmers have planted 81% of the planned winter crops or 6.6 million hectares. Wheat was sown on 5.8 million hectares, which is 87% of the forecast. In addition, farmers have finished planting rye on an area of 292 thousand hectares or 95% of the forecast. Sowing of winter barley is continuing, and it has already been planted on 512 thousand hectares," Demydov said.
