29% of small farms cultivate land by horses
According to the State Agency of Statistics, 29.2% of small agricultural households used horses for land cultivation in 2015. Only 17% of agricultural households had at least some kind of agricultural machinery, the third of them had tractors, 4.6% of them had automobile transport, and 2.3% of them had harvesters.
"The fact of using horses for farm works indicates a catastrophic situation with technical and machinery supply for farmers” - commented Vitaliy Kordysh, Expert of Agrarian Markets of the Association "Ukrainian Agribusiness Club ", - “and is the cause of low efficiency. It is obvious, that under the situation when farmers do not have proper access to machinery and significantly apply own hands labor it is not possible to reach a high level of efficiency in their business" - added the expert.
Note, that the share of agricultural households in the gross agricultural output was 45% in 2015.
