Romania. Wheat, maize exports remain strong in December

Wheat, maize exports remained strong in December – at 123.4 thousand tonnes and 98.8 thousand tonnes respectively, in December. Average export prices were EUR 127 per ton and EUR 164 per ton respectively. The main destinations for the exports of wheat were Spain and Italy, but also Greece, Israel and Egypt. More than 25% of the maize exports were shipped to Portugal and UK each, while important amounts were also delivered to Greece.

In 2009/10 MY, Ukraine to decrease sunflower seed exports

In the current MY (September 2009 – October 2010), Ukraine will export nearly 150 thsd tonnes of sunflower seed as opposed to 767 thsd tonnes in 2008/09 MY, declared Stepan Kapshuk, the General Director of the association Ukrolyaprom, on March 18.

Unilever comes out top in corporate responsibility rating

A new ranking of major food and beverage companies by their corporate social responsibility is published today, with Unilever, Nestle and Danone occupying the top three spots. The Tomorrow’s Value Rating was launched by consultancy Two Tomorrows in September 2009, and investigates the activities of the top ten companies in a given sector by the corporate responsibility activities reported in company materials, including annual reports, websites, and regulatory filings. Ukraine. This year’s late spring may negatively influence winter crops

This year’s late spring may aggravate the adverse impact of the icy crust, which remains in many areas of Kharkiv, Poltava, Sumy, Cherkasy, Kyiv and some other regions, on winter crops. It should be noted that in 2003, when an icy crust killed 5.5 Ml ha, winter crops resumed their growth very late: on March 25 in the Steppe, on April 11 in the Forest-Steppe, and on April 17 in the Forest.
