Adding milk to the list of government price regulation threatens the bankruptcy of farms and milk processing companies
May 22, 2012 Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted on the first reading the draft law #10456 “On Amendments to Article 3 of the Law of Ukraine “On State Support of Agriculture in Ukraine” in regulating purchasing prices for milk”, which proposes the milk in the list of government price control. It suggests processors must make payment for milk in seven business days. Experts and market participants think such legislative initiatives may lead to higher prices for dairy products and outflow of investment in industry

Limit of the land leasing size will stop development of plant growing
On the 22 of May, Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine plans to consider in the first reading a draft law “On Amendments to the Law of Ukraine “On Land Leasing” (to some restrictions of agricultural land leasing” (reg. #10273 from 27.03.2012). In the Association “Ukrainian agribusiness club” (UCAB) is pointed out, if the draft law is passed in the current edition, Ukraine will stop the development of commodity production of cereals and industrial crops.

IGC Cuts World 2012-13 Wheat Output View 0.7% To 676 Mln Tons
The global wheat crop is forecast at 676 MMT - down by 5 MMT from previous forecast and 19 MMT below the previous year’s record, the International Grains Council said on Thursday. The EU crop forecast is reduced sharply due to reports of worse than expected winter damage and recent dry conditions.

Global food prices measured by the FAO Food Price Index fell three points or 1.4 percent from March to April 2012 but seem to have stabilized at a relatively high level of 214 points, FAO said today.

Kernel buys Stiomi-Holding
Kernel Holding S.A. entered into a call option agreement to purchase a 100% interest in two farming companies, one which manages 79,200 ha of leasehold farmland in the Khmelnitsk region (Stiomi-Holding: grains and oilseeds, flour an bakery producer) and the other which manages 40,000 ha of leasehold farmland in the Poltava region.

The production of all types of meat is decreasing in Ukraine
For the first time during last three years in the domestic meat market it tends to reduce the production of all types of these products. For example, chilled chicken meat production has decreased by 5.6% to 181 thousand tons, and frozen - by 27% to 23 thousand tons while in the structure of the market this type of meat is more than 50%. However, experts of the Association "Ukrainian Agribusiness Club" (UCAB) states the import growth in this market.

Profitability of growing early strawberries in greenhouses is more than 300%
Ukraine imports about 500 tons of strawberries annually in the period from April to May . At the same time production of domestic products in greenhouses in the last three years has increased about 4 times and now is about 200 tons. Experts Association "Ukrainian Agribusiness Club" (UCAB) predict an increase of production in the future.
