Poultry meat production and livestock numbers are gradually recovering after several years of instability. At the end of 2025, total poultry meat production reached 1,390 thousand tons, which is 1.5% less than last year, but 2.7% above the 5-year average. Despite logistical difficulties, high feed costs, and energy challenges, Ukrainian companies continue their operations and maintain stable exports.

Key insights into this industry:

  • Livestock recovery: at the beginning of 2026, the poultry population stands at 192.3 million heads, which is 3% more than in the same period of 2025. The share of poultry at industrial enterprises is 64%, while households and small farms account for 36%. The production growth is supported by the activity of industrial enterprises, modernization of production processes, improved biosecurity, and more efficient feeding systems, despite high costs.
  • Export volumes and key markets: poultry meat exports in 2025 reached 436 thousand tons, which is 2% less compared to 2024, but 1% more than the average for the last 5 years. The market has stabilized, and the main export destinations remain countries with steady demand: the EU (30.6%), the Middle East (27.2%), and other European countries outside the EU (22.6%). Ukrainian companies are expanding their logistical capabilities and implementing European standards and directives to improve product quality.
  • Decrease in imports and self-sufficiency: poultry meat imports in 2025 were at the level of 46 thousand tons, which is 3% less than in 2024, and 73% below the 5-year average. This indicates a growing level of self-sufficiency and an increase in the production capacities of domestic producers.

Conclusion: the poultry industry operates under the pressure of economic and energy challenges but retains its production potential. The strengthening role of medium and regional producers, along with their investments in modernization, plays a key role in supporting the domestic market and increasing exports.
