Ukraine seaports’ net gain almost doubled in 2009, up to 1.8 billion hryvnia
Last year, according to provisional data, Ukrainian commercial sea ports’ net profit increased by 97.1% in comparison with 2008, up to 1.834.137 hryvnia. In 2009, the ports’ revenues rose 44.1%, up to 10.293.632 hryvnia, while costs at the same time were up 36 percent, at 8.459.495 hryvnia. The ports’ payments to the state budget grew by 2.22 times, up to 1.633.372.4 hryvnia, UNIAN reports citing the Ministry of Transport of Ukraine.

Grain exports equaled 1,693.4 KMT in January 2010 against 2557.8 KMT in December 2009. In total, Ukraine has already exported 15.75 MMT of grain and processed grain products since the season started.

Strong frosts damaged winter crops in Ukraine
On January 21-31, winter crops were in full winter dormancy.Cold weather with an average air temperature of 6-80 below the norm was reported in all Ukrainian regions from January 21 to 31. During this time on some days the air temperature reached -24-280, even down to -30-340 in parts of Western Ukraine.

Sunflower oil export regulations may change
According to the Ministry of Economy, sunflower oil exports from Ukraine exceed acceptable levels. The Ministry estimates, that monthly sunoil export should not exceed 159 KMT. At present, monthly exports average 200 KMT. The Ministry of Economy intends to set export quotas to prevent domestic sunflower oil shortages and limit price inflation.

The 2009/10 barley exports is very similar to that seen in the bumper season of 2008/09: high export in the beginning of the season and its sharp drop in December / January. As usual, Ukraine is the leader among barley exporters: as of January 25, 2010, 4.1 ММТ of barley was exported from there against 4.8 MMT in 2009.
