Ukrainian farmers welcome the plenary vote in the European Parliament on the ATMs rollover, look forward to its speedy adoption by the EU Council
The Ukrainian farmers and agriproducers, represented by UCAB (Ukrainian Agribusiness Club) welcome the positive vote at the European Parliament plenary session today on the ATMs rollover for Ukraine. It is encouraging that the EU finally demonstrates a strong political will to support Ukraine economically in the face of the Russian onslaught. We look forward to the speedy approval of the draft regulation by the EU Council well in time before the expiry of the current trade preferences.
The current version of the ATMs draft regulation deprives Ukrainian agricultural exporters of many opportunities to bring much-needed foreign currency earnings to the economy and hence to strengthen the country’s ability to defend itself. Unfortunately, political expediency and short-sighted sectoral interests prevailed over sense of solidarity and the seriousness of the current situation in Ukraine.
Yet, in overall the adoption of the ATMs regulation will serve as a powerful boost of economic confidence both in Ukraine and among its partners in Europe benefitting from Ukrainian products. It should also pave the way toward a constructive dialogue between Ukraine and the EU about how to establish a longer-term, enhanced bilateral trade regime which would be applicable until the time Ukraine joins the EU.
Europe’s solidarity with Ukraine continues to matter in the fight for Ukraine’s freedom and European values.
