In January industrial beef production decreased by 22%
According to the State Statistic Service industrial beef production in January 2016 amounted to 4.6 ths. tons in slaughtering weight, which is by 22% lower than the corresponding figures of 2015. Private households have reduced production by almost 2% to 11.9 ths. tons.
The reason for this trend is unprofitability of industry. The purchase prices for beef on the domestic market do not allow producers to get desired profitability, and exporting to other countries is limited because veterinary certificates are not approved.
Due to the difficult situation in the meat industry for the last 2 years the number of cattle in Ukraine has decreased by 621 ths heads. If the situation does not change, then soon Ukraine will not be able to meet the needs of the domestic market in beef. The only chance for our country is to promote exports that will make the cattle fattening economically attractive.
