In November buckwheat and potatoes went up in price, onions and carrots – went down
Buckwheat (+ 8.3%), potatoes (+ 7.4%), cabbage (+ 5.0%), sugar beet (+ 4.4%), pasta (+ 3.3%) and flour (+ 2.8%) increased in price the most among crop products in November. The prices of maize, sugar and sunflower oil increased moderately, and the prices of onions, carrots and rice even fell by 9.4%, 6.1% and 0.8% respectively.
Increase of prices for vegetables is seasonal, but increase in the cost of some products, such as buckwheat and sugar, is caused by decrease of production this year. Besides, processors of grains and oilseeds (producers of flour, pasta, bread, sunflower oil) get limited supply of raw materials on the market due to purposeful decrease of supplies by producers that expect further growth of purchase prices and do not rush to sell large volumes of production at once. So processors have to raise the purchase prices, resulting in price increase for end products.
