Ukraine ranks 3rd in the global rapeseed export market in 2024

Ukraine’s rapeseed export totaled $1.85 billion, which accounts for 18.4% of the global rapeseed export and 7.5% of Ukraine’s total agricultural exports.

The leading global rapeseed exporters in 2024 were:

• Canada – $4.33 billion
• Australia – $3.03 billion
• Ukraine – $1.85 billion
• EU – $283 million

• EU – 89.8%
• United Kingdom – 9.3%

• Algeria – 0.2%

Key Insights:

• Historic export revenue high: 2024 was a record year for rapeseed exports, reaching $1.85 billion, surpassing pre-war 2021 results ($1.69 billion) and showing a strong recovery after a decline in 2023 ($1.17 billion).
• Dominance of the European market: Unlike cereals, the rapeseed export market in 2024 was highly consolidated geographically: the number of importing countries decreased from 45 to 37, with 99.1% of all exports going to Europe. This makes the industry reliant on European demand but also simplifies logistical chains compared to other markets.
• Return to maritime logistics: In 2023, nearly half of the exports went through the Danube ports, and the share of the Black Sea was just 14%. In 2024, the situation changed: 70% of the volumes were shipped via the deep-water ports of the Black Sea, while the significant share of the “Solidarity Corridors” accounted for 23% of exports, due to the geographical proximity of the key buyer – the European Union.

Conclusion: Ukraine firmly maintains its position among the global leaders in rapeseed exports, providing almost a fifth of the global market. The record revenue in 2024 indicates the high profitability and strategic importance of this crop for the agricultural sector.
