Key Insights:
- Ukraine is consistently among the top ten global exporters of key oilseed crops;
- unlike grains, oilseed exports show a clear geographical focus – almost 75% of all oilseed exports in 2024 were directed to EU countries;
- rapeseeds and soybeans together generate 94% of export revenue, which, on one hand, highlights the strategic importance of these two crops, and on the other hand, creates a risk of dependence on global demand and trade policies in the key sales region;
- after a record year in 2022 ($3.76 billion), there was a decline in exports in 2023 to $2.82 billion. However, in 2024, figures gradually recovered, reaching $3.39 billion, indicating improved logistics and Ukraine’s ability to meet stable global demand.
Conclusion: Accounting for 13.7% of agricultural exports, oilseeds are a significant component of Ukraine’s foreign trade. The geography of supplies in 2024 covered 86 countries, but the main market remains the EU. In oilseed export logistics, Black Sea ports are dominant, but they have only partially regained their pre-war role; the Danube and land routes still remain critically important alternatives.
