Western regions have higher concentration of food stores
GT Partners Ukraine reports average food retail market saturation in large Ukrainian cities at 90 m2 per 1,000 people. The highest shopping space concentration of 179 m2 per 1,000 people is observed in Rovno with the population of 245,000. The figure of over 100 m2 has also been registered in 1.103mn Dnepropetrovsk (119 m2), Ternopol (114 m2, 227,000 population), Ivano-Frankovsk (114 m2, 237,200), Nikolaev (113 m2, 508,000), Chernovtsy (108 m2, 240,000) and Odessa (105 m2, 1.002mn).
Cities of Northern Ukraine have the lowest concentration of shopping areas. In Sumy it totals 53m2 per 1,000 people with the population of 302,000, in Chernigov 59 m2 with the population of 312,000. In West-Ukrainian Lvov with the population of 758,000 it amounts to 62 m2. In Kiev, where the population totals 2.629mn, the figure is 97 m2 per 1,000 people.
