Hemp growing has been revived in Ukraine
Decline in hemp growing was observed throughout the period of independence of Ukraine. This led to the fact that in 2009 the acreage of this crop amounted to merely 50 ha. For comparison, in 1990 this figure was 10.2 ths. ha. But now the situation is changing.
Thus, since March 2010 there has been a gradual increase in acreage of industrial hemp, and in 2015 the sown areas constituted 1.6 ths. ha. Abolishment of special permits for cultivation of industrial hemp and demand for seeds of this crop on foreign markets are the main incentives for the increase of production. Thus, in 2014 the exports of seeds of technical hemp from Ukraine amounted to USD 183.7 ths., which is 2.5 times more than in 2009.
