U.S. wheat stocks the largest since 2000
The National Agricultural Statistics Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture on Jan. 12 estimated wheat stocks held in all positions in the United States on Dec. 1, 2009, at 1.8 billion bushels, up 24% from 1.4 billion bushels in 2008. It was the largest Dec. 1 wheat inventory since 1.81billion bushels in 2000.
Wheat disappearance during September-November 2009, the second quarter of the 2009-10 marketing year, totaled 444 million bushels, up 2% from 436 million bushels during the same span in 2008. June-November wheat use, marking disappearance during the first half of the marketing year, was estimated at 1.1 billion bushels, down 20% from 1.4 billion bushels during the first six months of 2008-09.
U.S. corn stocks on Dec. 1, 2009 were estimated at 10.9 billion bushels, up 9% from 10.1 billion bushels a year earlier. Corn disappearance in September-November 2009, the first quarter of the 2009-10 marketing year for corn, totaled 3.9 billion bushels, up 6% from 3.7 billion bushels in the same quarter last year.
U.S. soybean stocks on Dec. 1, 2009 were estimated at 2.3 billion bushels, up 3% from 2.3 billion bushels a year earlier. Soybean disappearance in September-November 2009, the first quarter of the 2009-10 marketing year for soybeans, totaled 1.2 billion bushels, up 31% from 888 million bushels during the same span of 2008-09.
