Ukrainian retail to grow by 6% in 2010
The volume of the Ukrainian retail trade in 2010 will increase by 6% compared to 2009 which will be mainly attributed to increasing consumer lending, according to the Ukrainian analysts forecasts.
The level of consumer lending in Ukraine this year should increase by 15-20% which will help to stimulate the country’s retail trade.
It is expected that the real incomes of the Ukrainians in 2010 will grow by 3-4%, while the rate of unemployment by 5%-6%.
Last year the volume of the Ukrainian retail trade up decreased by 20,6% compared to 2008 and amounted to 229,855 billion UAH ($28,75 bln). In December to November 2009 this figure increased by 15%. Total retail sales, including street retail last year amounted to 442,793 billion UAH ($55,25 bln), which is 16,6% less than in 2008.
The drop in retail trade turnover in Ukraine was mainly attributed with the recession and reducing purchasing power of local consumers.
