Ukrainian government intends to create a state operator on the grain market. The main aim is to help farmers who currently deal with private traders and sell grains to them at low prices.
The plan is to create a state operator on the basis of the Agrarian fund and “Khlib Ukrainy” which is the biggest owner of inland elevators and a port grain terminal in Odessa.
The state grain trader should be able to purchase up to 2 MMT of grains on the domestic market for exports. Will farmers sell grain and brokers purchase it from a state operator? What is the future of the state trading company created on the basis of two other companies, one of which is on the verge of bankruptcy, and the other one “lost” a minimum of 150 KMT of grains? Maybe the future will be bright. Time will show.
The rumors about the creation of state grain operator “Zerno Ukrainy” appeared last year in autumn but no steps were taken in this direction. UkrAgroConsult believes that this procedure will take a long time.
