Ukrainian farmers may face shortage of funds prior to the harvest-2011 - S.Stoyanov

The harvesting campaign-2011 in Ukraine is expected to be considerably more generous compared to the last year, but also much more expensive on all indicators - both profitable and expenditure, stated Sergey Stoyanov, General Director of Ukrainian Agrarian Confederation.

According to him, at the end of April 2011 Ukraine resumed the process of returning on the world grain market. As the export trading of wheat and barley is still limited, the genera exports of grain of the harvest-2010 from Ukraine totaled 9.4 mln tonnes, down 10 mln tonnes compared to the same period of the previous MY.

S.Stoyanov added that the return of Ukraine on the world grain market became coincident with the sharp decline of the world grain quotations, on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange wheat and maize indices fell by over 30 USD/t.

Such market trends will hardly contribute to business optimism of Ukrainian grain companies, explained CEO of Ukrainian Agrarian Confederation. Also, traders still have rather large carry-over stocks of wheat and barley.

S.Stoyanov said that only in the third quarter (July-September), the market will face numerous offers of wheat, barley and rapeseed at the unprecedented sum of 60 bln UAH.

Agrarians sowed agricultural crops for the harvest-2011 at rather high previous prices, and who will give the required sums of money to agrarians for the harvesting campaign in July-September, added S.Stoyanov.
