Ukraine's agriculture ministry disappointed by budget financing of agriculture for 2013 proposed by cabinet

The Agricultural Policy and Food Ministry of Ukraine is disappointed with a draft law on the national budget for 2013 proposed by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine with regard to the financing of agriculture.

"We're frankly disappointed [by the draft budget]. You get the impression that they don't listen to us," the director of the agrarian market economic development department at the ministry, Vitaliy Sabluk said at the fourth conference entitled "Doing Agribusiness in Ukraine: Prospects for 2013" in Kyiv on Thursday.

He said that it was unlikely that the ministry will manage to realize large-scale projects on supporting the sector with such a level of budget financing.

Sabluk said that the ministry expects that Ukrainian farmers will support it in the issue.

President of the Ukrainian Agribusiness Club (UCAB) Alex Lissitsa said at the conference that farmers also believe that expenses on agriculture proposed by the government are not enough.

He said that the UCAB, jointly with the Agrarian Union and Association of Farmers and Landowners on December 7, 2012 plan to officially address Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych and the cabinet asking them not to pass the current bill on the national budget for 2013.

According to the draft law on the national budget for 2013, the expenses of the Agricultural Policy and Food Ministry are reduced by UAH 2.6 billion, or 30% compared to the financing in 2012.
