Ukraine to import 20 thsd tonnes of buckwheat groats from China
The Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine provides negotiations with trading companies and the embassy of China concerning purchases of buckwheat groats to Ukraine, declared Nikholay Prysiazhnyuk, Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food, on February 9.
The import volumes will form the range of 15-20 thsd tonnes, in order to form the carry-over stocks, and bring buckwheat to the state reserves, because to date buckwheat is subject to the state price regulation.
According to the request of Nikholay Azarov, Prime-Minister of Ukraine, by November 1, the Ministry has to prepare all required documents for cancellation of buckwheat groats import duties and VAT taxation.
Anatoliy Rozgon, Director of the Department of agrarian market development of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food, mentioned that either the State Food-Grain Corporation, or Khleb Investbud Ltd. will realize imports of buckwheat from China. According to him, in 2011 Ukraine should expect for enlarging of buckwheat sowing areas from the last year level of 200 thsd ha to 300 thsd ha. The prime cost of buckwheat of the harvest-2010 totaled 1747 UAH/t, as opposed to 1505 UAH/t in 2009.
