Ukraine to harvest 38 million tons of grain in 2010
Ukraine's grain harvest in 2010 will total 38 million tons in weight after processing, Ukrainian First Deputy Agriculture Minister Serhiy Melnyk has said.
"Ukraine is expected to harvest 38 million tons of grain in weight after threshing," he told journalists in Kyiv on Tuesday, UKRINFORM reported, with reference to FundMarket.
Melnyk also noted that Ukraine had already exported about three million tons of grain, mainly wheat and barley.
He said that agribusinesses had sown winter crops for the 2011 harvest on an area of more than two million hectares.
The Ukrainian Agriculture Ministry earlier lowered its forecast for grain harvest from 40-41 million tons to 38.6 million tons, compared to 46 million tons recorded in 2009.
