Ukraine: sunflower seed areas in the southern oblasts are in poor condition
According to the polling of agricultural producers conducted by experts of APK-Inform Agency, agrarians of several southern oblasts of Ukraine reported about unsatisfactory condition of sunflower seed planting areas.
According to agrarians of Odessa, Nikolayev and Kherson oblasts, the continuous drought, high air temperatures and lack of the required moisture content in the soil became the main reasons that the oilseed areas are in a very weakened condition, poorly developed.
Also, a number of agricultural enterprises of the South of the country reported about a partial losses of sunflower seed areas, that is why the areas became re-disked.
Taking into account the situation, many agrarians expect for reduction of sunflower seed yield, but they still not hurry to make definitive conclusions on the issue.
As a reminder, the average yield of the oilseed in 2011 in Odessa oblast totaled 14.5 c/ha, in Kherson oblast - 12.2 c/ha, Nikolayev - 17.4 c/ha.
