Ukraine sees deficit of balance of trade in goods worsen by 9.5% in seven months

The deficit of Ukraine's foreign trade in goods was estimated at $3.454 billion in January-July 2010, which was 9.5% more than in the same period in 2009, the State Statistics Committee reported on Monday.

According to the committee, exports of goods from Ukraine in the first seven months of 2010 grew by 33.3% to $27.335 billion, while imports rose by 30.1% to $30.789 billion.

As reported, the balance of foreign trade in goods began to worsen in June 2010. In the first five months of 2010 it improved by 8.3% compared to last year's figure, while in the first half of 2010 it had already exceeded the figure recorded in 2009 by 2%, and reached $2.515 billion.

Exports of goods from Ukraine in the first half of 2010 grew by 33.5% to $23.098 billion, whereas imports of goods rose by 29.6% to $25.613 billion.

According to the committee, the ratio of coverage of imports by exports in January-July 2010 was 0.89, whereas in the first seven months of 2009 it was 0.87.

Ukraine traded in goods with partners from 208 countries and regions.
