Ukraine Rice Production Up 55.1% On Year
According to a report released by the Ukrainian Grain Association (UGA), the country has managed to produce 94,900 MT of rice in 2009, an increase of 55.1% compared to 2008.
The association attributed the increase to expanded harvesting areas by 27% to 15,500 hectares, and increased yields of 10.9 bushels per hectare.
Also in 2009, the general production volumes of buckwheat in Ukraine decreased by 25% 27,000 MT, the UGA said. Harvesting areas grew by 33.3% 4,000 hectares, but yields declined by 3.9 bushels per hectare to 7 bushels per hectare.
